Kensley's First Day of Public Kindergarten
Kensley had an awesome first day of public Kindergarten, although I
think she still thought Mrs. Darlene would show up someway.
Funny story: Kensley said laying in bed Sunday night that she wanted
to take her lunch (change of plans). I packed her lunch.
****
Fast forward to Monday afternoon when I was getting the scoop on how
Kindergarten at this school works and checking her backpack. "Kensley,
why didn't you eat all your lunch? What DID you eat for lunch?"
Kensley [eyes lighting up]: Mama! I had chocolate milk, and my
grahamful, and my peaches, and string cheese. I just didn't have time
for the applesauce and chicken [she specifically requested Sunday
night].
Mama: Chocolate milk? Did you buy milk in the cafeteria?
Kensley [excitedly, still]: YES! The lady said I could.
Mama: Kensley, do you remember when Daddy and I said that if you take
a lunchbox?
Kensley: No ma'am.
Mama: Ok, well this is your reminder. IF you take your pretty new
lunchbox, you do ALSO go through the lunchline.
<<<Later that evening, at dinner.>>>
Mama: Daddy, ask Kensley what she had for lunch today.
Daddy [looking curiously at Mama]: Kensley? What did you have for lunch today?
Kensley [looking a little disgusted at Mama]: Well, I had chocolate milk...
Daddy: Wait, you had chocolate milk? Didn't you take your lunchbox?
Kensley: Yes, but the lady said I could have it
--->Can't you just see her politely asking some sweet lady if she
could have some chocolate milk?!?!
Daddy: So you went in the lunchline?
Kensley: Yes.
Mama: Kensley, tell us the story of how you got to lunch and then got
your chocolate milk.
Kensley: Well, Mrs. K said, "Everybody line up for lunch!" and so we
lined up. Then we turned and walked up the stairs, then we walked up
the hallway, and then walked up some more stairs, then we turned right
and then walked a little straight and then we put our lunchboxes on
our table. Then, I asked the cafeteria officer (laughing ensues from
parental units) if I could have some chocolate milk. She said, "What's
your name little girl?" and she looked at my nametag and wrote down my
name.
Daddy: Did you smell your milk? Remember me telling you to smell your
milk first?
Kensley: No, it tasted fine.
Beyond that, we reiterated that if Kensley takes a lunchbox to school
she cannot go through the lunchline. Daddy also went on to say that he
has to pay for it when she goes through the line. Kensley denied that
she didn't have to pay, since no money exchanged hands. I pulled up
her account and showed her that they deducted $0.60 from her account.
Kensley quickly made up her mind that she was only going through the
lunchline "from now on."

The back to school fairy came last night!
Kensley left a note under her pillow and the Back2School Fairy found the book bag she wanted AND delivered all of her school supplies!!! Her note said she normally comes the night before school, but she knew Kensley needed to take her school supplies today. She even added some books from Nanna and Pop and some pencils and cool animal erasers!!!
